17 dancers glided across the stage as if they were in a long dream in the opening sequence of the Polaris Dance Concert, with music that the choreographer Emily Olster hoped to be “a little bit strange.”

SLO Symphony to perform ‘A Grand Occasion,’ opening with work inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.
The performance will open with jazz pianist and composer Patrice Rushen’s “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory,” a symphonic work inspired by the legacy of the late Martin Luther King Jr. that includes a quote from his 1968 “I Have a Dream” speech.
Cal Poly Choirs to kick off holiday season with annual concert
According to the Cal Poly music department website, the concert is presented by Cal Poly Choirs, a group that includes Polyphonics, The University Singers, Chamber Choir and Cantabile. As a special addition to the concert, the Cal Poly Wind Ensemble and the Cuesta College Chamber Singers will also be performing.
SLO Master Chorale to perform “Chants Encounter” at PAC
On Sunday at 3 p.m., the San Luis Obispo Master Chorale will present “Chants Encounter,” a performance of works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Arvo Pärt at the Performing Arts Center.
Acclaimed author and comedian David Sedaris to perform at PAC for national tour
The show will run for 90 minutes with no intermission and will include a 30 minute audience Q & A at the end. Sedaris will be available to sign books 45 minutes before the show as well as afterwards for additional signing time, with books sold on site at the Cal Poly bookstore.
San Luis Obispo Symphony to hold California Festival this weekend
The San Luis Obispo Symphony is holding the California Festival in Harold Miossi Hall at the Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Nov. 4, highlighting diverse voices in music from the last five years.
