Alleged bank robber not attending Cal Poly

Accused bank robber and formerly incoming Cal Poly men’s basketball freshman Anthony Di Loreto will no longer be attending the school this fall, according to athletic director Alison Cone.

“Anthony’s family and attorney contacted (Mustangs head coach) Kevin Bromley, and they had a nice discussion,” Cone said Thursday.

Poly grad brings home gold

BEIJING – Cal Poly graduate Stephanie Brown Trafton won the gold medal in the women’s discus Monday night at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing and became the first gold medalist from Cal Poly after posting a mark of 212 feet, 5 inches.

“Someone told me that I was coming to the Bird’s Nest to lay a golden egg,” she told reporters.

Bill to lower textbook costs

Students can expect cheaper textbooks by next school year, thanks to a Congressional bill signed into law by the president on Aug. 14 encouraging textbook publishers to help lower book prices. The bill, part of the Higher Education Opportunity Act, goes into effect in July 2010.
