People don’t usually end up living the life they dreamed about when they were young. There just isn’t enough room for everyone to become a doctor, astronaut, actor, athlete or any other title that made the lofty list of possibilities. However, there are those select few who ignore that reasoning, stick to the initial plan and prevail anyway.

Swimming teams defeat UCSC

Students and community members crowded the stands of the Sinsheimer Park swimming pool Saturday to cheer on the Cal Poly men’s and women’s swimming teams as they overwhelmingly defeated the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs 183-104 and 170-118.

Cal Poly freshmen Amy Morales, Lacey Buck and Kylie France won two races each on the women’s side contributing to the Mustangs lead.

Sports weekend: looking ahead

Women’s basketball Cal Poly (12-7, 4-3) vs. CSUN (5-15, 2-5) The Mustangs are riding their first three-game winning streak this season as they take on the Matadors at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Matadome. Cal Poly faced one of their toughest non-conference games earlier this week when they beat Cal State Bakersfield (13-8) on Tuesday.

Final non-conference test awaits Mustangs

The Cal Poly women’s basketball team hadn’t won two consecutive Big West Conference games this season until last weekend’s defeats of Pacific and UC Davis.

The Mustangs (11-7) may have finally found their stride in conference. Now they step away from the Big West for the final time this season as they take on Cal State Bakersfield at 7 p.
