As a reader of the Mustang Daily and a Cal Poly athlete, I am appalled by the decisions of which sports have had featured stories this past week. Specifically, I can not understand why a sport in their off-season would have a feature story about their recruiting class, when men’s soccer just had a huge win against conference leader and defending conference champion Cal State Northridge.

I think there is something wrong with the elevators in the library. I’m a civil engineer and am lucky enough not to have to take vibrations classes that mechanicals do, but I’m pretty sure elevators are not supposed to shake violently.

It’s even scarier to look at the inspection sheets inside the elevator which expired in August.

I like Mr. McThrow’s thinking regarding solving the bike problem. But why stop at bridges? Let’s make our campus rival Disneyland. I propose installing gondolas, underground passageways, moving sidewalks, trolleys, escalators, cable cars, monorails and some tunnels.

Wednesday’s staff commentary about the “danger” of walking around campus due to bikes is bogus.

First of all, the primary bike-riding contingent on campus are well-experienced mountain and road bikers, the wheelmen and triathletes (and those of us who ride for fun) typically have years of experience riding.

I bike from the corner of Laurel and Johnson to campus everyday, so I guess people would label me as a “biker.” I’m not one of those mean bikers that everyone has been writing about though. I really do try to stay in the “friendly” zones (the bike lanes and the right side of the road according to Ms.

Polls misleading and confusing

Your poll on Jurassic Park IV (although the responses appear to be written in college sarcasm), was very misleading. Being a father of a 10 year old who is very much a dinosaur/monster fanatic, we watch the movies often. We just viewed the first installment Friday night.

I whole-heartedly agree with Ms. Pearson and the others who have voiced their support for dating … to a point.

To all the guys out there, man up and tell a girl you like her instead of going the wimp’s way and leaving it for her to figure out.

And girls, stop with the vague hints and clues; if the guy you like won’t ask you out, do it yourself.

In response to Matt Bushman’s political commentary, “You can’t hug your children with nuclear arms”:

Iraq was not the biggest threat to our nation’s security, as we’ve known for over two years that Saddam Hussein did not have any weapons of mass destruction.

Anyone else think the bike regulations on this campus are absolutely ridiculous? I’m glad I’m doing favors for several factions (myself, my bank account, the environment, the school, bus riders, everyone else who still insists on driving to campus…), and University Police Department thanks me by pulling me over on my way to class (and potentially fining me $100 in the future) because I’m riding my bike in a “Walk Your Bike” zone.

I never thought I would be writing a letter thanking the police, especially not the University Police after the obscene number of parking tickets I have accumulated over the years. Nevertheless, here it is: a thank you note. Today, I was fortunate enough to witness two of Cal Poly’s finest men in blue giving tickets to a whole line of bikers who had been caught doing something illegal.

There was a short article in the Oct. 4 Cal Poly Report announcing that Mustang Graphics (which includes Pony Prints in the library) will be closed next month. This was shocking news.

As a staff member in an academic department, I’ve utilized the services of Mustang Graphics for many years.
